Algerian cyclist Mimouni Oussama has been declared the winner of the second lap of the International #CyclingTour2024.
The decision was made by race commissioners after the race was discontinued 10 km from the finish line due to torrential rainfall, which made it impossible for the bikers to continue.
Despite this, cyclist Clovis Kamzong Abossolo retains the yellow jersey. The next lap will be a closed circuit in Garoua, covering a distance of 99.2 km.
Nine cycling teams from eight countries, including France, Holland, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Algeria, and Cameroon, participated in the 20th edition of the International Cycling Tour of Cameroon. The teams were presented at a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. The competition kicked off with the first lap, covering a distance of 131 km from Maroua to Mora and back to Maroua. Cameroonian cyclist Clovis Kamzong Abessolo expressed hope for his team to win the yellow jersey.
“My team and I are hopeful that the anthem of Cameroon will be sung in Maroua at the end of the first lap. We have been in Maroua for some time now to acquaint ourselves with the climate, and we think everything will go on as planned.”
