Mahjong set company Mahjong Pros revealed on Tuesday the new Mahjong Pros Publishing imprint, which will focus on licensing, localizing, and distributing mahjong-themed manga and textbooks. The imprint has licensed the following two titles from Takeshobo: Hideki Ohwada‘s Reform with No Wasted Draws – The Legend of Koizumi (Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku) manga and Senba Kurono’s 136 Ready-to-Use Mahjong Strategy & Tactics mahjong guide. Both titles will launch digitally in early Q4 2025, and the company has also confirmed that they will get physical releases after.
Mahjong Pros Publishing describes the Reform with No Wasted Draws – The Legend of Koizumi political satire manga:
Modern diplomacy is settled through high-stakes games of mahjong in this cult classic starring a fictionalized Prime Minister Junichirō Koizumi. First serialized in Kindai Mahjong magazines, the 16-volume series pits Koizumi against caricatured world leaders including George W. Bush, Kim Jong-il, Vladimir Putin, Margaret Thatcher, and others. The title itself is a reference to Koizumi’s political slogan, Seiiki Naki Kaikaku (Reform without Sanctuary). A three-episode OVA adaptation premiered online in 2009–2010, and a sequel to the manga series, Reform with No Wasted Draws – Princess of Zipang, is currently being serialized.
The company describes the 136 Ready-to-Use Mahjong Strategy & Tactics guide:
VTuber and top-ranked player of Tenhou (9-Dan) and Mahjong Soul (Celestial), Senba Kurono distills offense, push-fold logic, tile calls, defensive reads, and placement control into 136 bite-sized techniques mahjong players of any skill level can apply immediately and level up their game.
Ohwada (Mobile Suit Gundam-san, Beach de Q, Dai Mahou Touge) launched the original Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku manga in the Kindai Mahjong Original magazine, and irregularly serialized it before moving the series to Kindai Mahjong and serializing the series bimonthly. Takeshobo published the manga’s 16th and final compiled book volume in October 2015.
The manga has inspired a three-episode video anime series. The first episode began streaming on YouTube and Nico Nico Douga in December 2009. The last two episodes were released on DVD in February 2010.
Ohwada’s Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku: Princess of Jipang manga ended in Takeshobo‘s Kindai Mahjong magazine in November 2022, which also marked the end of the entire Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku series
The manga is a sequel to Ohwada’s Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku (Reform Without Wasted Draws or The Legend of Koizumi) manga. Ohwada had intended to launch a new arc for the manga in the fall of 2015 after ending the manga’s “Senkaku Islands Arc” in August of that year. The manga instead went on hiatus. Ohwada then launched Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku: Princess of Jipang in August 2017, retroactively ending the original manga and launching the new sequel.
