Nigeria: Nigeria Warns Residents In opposition to Travelling to Australia

According to the ministry, there has been a new surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic abominate crimes in Australia that has heightened the risk of violence.

The Nigerian govt has issued a dash advisory cautioning residents towards touring to Australia, citing fashioned incidents of verbal abuse, harassment, and discrimination focusing on foreigners.

The Federal Ministry of International Affairs issued the advisory in an announcement on Tuesday, following a an analogous warning from the Australian govt advising its residents towards travelling to Nigeria.

According to the ministry, there has been a new surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic abominate crimes in Australia that has heightened the risk of violence.

It talked about one such case became once the vandalisation of a Jewish neighbourhood in Sydney in December 2024.

Australian govt advisory

The advisory issued by the ministry is considered retaliatory as it came after the Australian govt warned its residents towards visiting Nigeria due to escalating security concerns.

In an announcement moreover issued on Tuesday, the Australian Department of International Affairs and Swap (DFAT) attributed its dash warning to concerns over terrorism, kidnapping, unsafe consumables, unlucky health intervention, violent crimes, and the aptitude for civil unrest.

It described Nigeria’s security ambiance as every volatile and unpredictable, noting that it could per chance either be indiscriminate or target foreigners.

“Nigeria has strict laws against same-sex relationships. Avoid public displays of affection and cross-dressing. In Sharia law states, there are harsh punishments for same-sex relationships, adultery or public expression deemed blasphemous or religiously disrespectful,” the advisory read.

The advisory specifically known states comparable to Adamawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Unhealthy River, Delta, Kaduna, Kano, Niger, Rivers, Yobe, and Zamfara as “do not travel” zones due to elevated security threats.
