The contention between Red Bull and McLaren has evolved from an on-tune and technical battle into an ongoing war of words.
Ahead of the US Grand Prix weekend, Red Bull consultant Dr. Helmut Marko commented on what he perceives as Lando Norris‘ psychological weaknesses, mentioning pre-proceed nerves, rituals, and inconsistent begins.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown spoke back sharply during the FIA press convention, accusing 81-year-ragged Marko of undermining development on psychological well being awareness in Formulation 1.
“I thought it was below the belt,” Brown instructed Sky Deutschland on Saturday.
“But it’s pointless to talk to him about it. It is not the first time he has made comments like that, and it will certainly not be the last.”
When requested about Brown’s response, Marko instructed motorsport-magazin.com that he was as soon as merely sharing his opinion.
“I was simply asked who would be world champion,” Marko explained. “I said Max (Verstappen) would possibly perchance be champion as a consequence of he’s mentally basic stronger and as a consequence of he’s the quickest driver.
“And must you explore at how most regularly Max wins positions or keeps his role on the begin, and how Norris does it, I think everything is evident.
“If it was misinterpreted, then I’m sorry,” Marko added.
Norris, meanwhile, addressed the rigidity between his boss Brown and Marko, insisting that he isn’t any longer afflicted by what folks notify.
“I really don’t mind if people say what they want to say about me, good or bad,” the McLaren driver said.
“Everyone is trying to play their role, whether they are team bosses, drivers, or managers. Everyone is trying to irritate everyone else with their little quips and comments.”
One other comment that sparked debate was as soon as Verstappen’s statement that, if he had been in Oscar Piastri‘s shoes, he wouldn’t settle for a ‘number 2’ role to Norris.
Piastri, on the opposite hand, also seemed unaffected by the comment.
“I think Max is a pretty honest guy,” Piastri said. “He says what he thinks. All of us know that.
“But I don’t see it as a number 1, number 2. If I perform well and I deserve it, I won’t give everything up for Lando. I appreciate his (Verstappen’s) support, but it’s not really how I see it.”
