Actor Mackenyu introduced on his X (beforehand Twitter) memoir on Wednesday he’ll reprise his role as Arata Wataya in Chihayafuru: Rotund Circle (Chihayafuru -Meguri-), the sleek reside-motion tv sequence inspired by Yuki Suetsugu‘s Chihayafuru manga. The sequence premiered in Japan on July 9 on NTV and affiliated channels. Netflix began streaming the sequence on July 17.
Ami Tōma stars as Meguru Aizawa, a second-year highschool student who quietly takes phase in a aggressive karuta card-playing club that is in pains of disbanding as a result of the shortcoming of members. Mone Kamishiraishi returns to her role as Kanade Ōe, now a phase-time trainer who serves as the adviser of the karuta club. Mone Kamishiraishi returns as Kanade Ōe. Suzu Hirose returns as Chihaya, a karuta queen title holder who became the adviser of the Mizuawa Excessive College karuta club, but who’s now on a leave of absence from her job for some cause. Shūhei Nomura returns as Taichi, now a resident doctor. Yūma Yamoto returns as Nishida, who now runs an okonomiyaki shop. Yūki Morinaga returns as Komano, now a pharmacist. Hayato Sano and Mio Yūki each and each return as Tsukuba and Sumire, respectively.
Manga creator Suetsugu is involved with the sleek display, which is determined a decade after the reside-motion motion photos. The original motion photos’ director Norihiro Koizumi is serving as the showrunner. Naoya Fujita, Daisuke Honda, Chiaki Matsumoto, and Kazuhiro Yoshida are directing the sequence. Monogatari Lab and Suzuyuki Kaneko are credited with the screenplay. Masaru Yokoyama is composing the song. Pop community Perfume is returning to make the sequence’ theme song “Megu (from the series title’s “Meguri”) Loop.” Perfume beforehand performed the theme song for the 2016 two-phase Chihayafuru reside-motion motion photos.

The main reside-motion movie, Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku (Chihayafuru: Better Phrase), opened in Japan in March 2016. The second movie, Chihayafuru: Shimo no Ku (Chihayafuru: Decrease Phrase), opened in Japan in April 2016. The third movie, Chihayafuru: Musubi, opened in Japan in March 2018. A 5-episode reside-motion tie-in sequence, titled Chihayafuru -Tsunagu-, premiered on Hulu Japan in February 2018.
Suetsugu launched the original manga in Kodansha‘s Be Worship month-to-month magazine in December 2007. Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the manga digitally in English.
The manga’s final chapter debuted in Be Worship in August 2022. Be Worship published a spinoff side memoir in November 2022. The manga’s 50th and final compiled book quantity shipped in December 2022 with the spinoff manga. A sequel manga titled Chihayafuru plus Kimi ga Tame launched in Be Worship in December 2023.
The manga has inspired three tv anime seasons. Crunchyroll streamed all three seasons as they aired. Sentai Filmworks launched all three seasons with an English dub on home video. HIDIVE is additionally streaming the seasons with Eastern subtitles and an English dub.
