Nearly 380,000 candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will favor to rob the take a look at again, following a foremost resolution by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The board announced that technical system defects affected the exam assignment in six states, prompting a rescheduling of the take a look at for all college students involved.

According to JAMB, the resolution impacts candidates in Lagos, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Anambra states that hosted a total of 157 malfunctioning exam centres. These centres were flagged after many college students raised issues online and on various platforms about scoring strangely low marks that didn’t match their expectations.

The board confirmed that about 206,610 of the affected candidates sat for the exam in 65 centres across Lagos, while 173,387 wrote theirs in 92 centres located in the South-East issue.

After conducting a thorough review, JAMB realized foremost technical errors that can beget compromised the validity of the implications in these centres.

“We needed to rob this step to maintain the integrity of the UTME,” talked about Professor Is-haq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, who admitted that the board had identified serious lapses during the examination assignment.

“We will now not ignore the technical failures that befell, and fairness requires that these candidates win one other likelihood.”

Candidates are being notified of the retake through SMS, email, and updates to their JAMB profiles. They’ve also been told to reprint their exam slips to substantiate their original dates and venues. The retake is scheduled to begin on Friday, Would perhaps well merely 16.

A serious area for many college students and individuals used to be the seemingly conflict with the ongoing West African Senior College Certificate Examination (WASSCE), nonetheless JAMB has already reached an agreement with WAEC.

The two exam bodies are now working together to be sure college students taking both UTME and WASSCE received’t face any timetable conflicts.

This one year’s UTME saw over 1.9 million candidates across the nation, with over 78% scoring below 200 out of 400, a sort JAMB says has remained constant in most traditional years. However, for the board, maintaining the credibility of the exam is extra foremost than any performance statistic.

In the period in-between, JAMB has reiterated its strict stance on biometric verification. Candidates whose biometrics can no longer be verified on the exam day will no longer be allowed to sit for the UTME or even its mock versions.
