Namibia: 16 Namibian Companies Eager to Revive Nationwide Airline thumbnail

A total of 16 Namibian corporations trust expressed curiosity in contributing to developing a nationwide airline.

Ministry of Works and Transport spokesperson Julius Ngweda on Friday said: “The ministry deeply appreciates the concerned response and willingness of the general public to abet in this critical nationwide endeavour.

“The ministry wants to expose the general public that a dedicated technical committee has been established to info the course of of developing the nationwide airline.

“This committee is comprised of individuals with specialised knowledge and expertise in various areas of aviation, ensuring a thorough and informed approach to this complex undertaking.”

Namibia’s outdated nationwide airline, Air Namibia, became liquidated in 2021 and plans to attach a contemporary nationwide airline by December 2026 had been presented by the federal government earlier this year.

Works and transport minister Veiko Nekundi final month said the contemporary airline would greatly make a contribution to the country’s economic system.

“Air Namibia is not coming back. We are not reviving Air Namibia. We are bringing back a national airline, and not Air Namibia. Those are two different things. Air Namibia is gone. It’s killed by those who wanted to kill it, but a national airline will be in Namibia,” he said.

Ngweda on Friday said the technical committee has been actively engaged in discussing the institution of the airline right thru the allocated timeframe.

“These conferences are an crucial in laying the groundwork for a sustainable and successful nationwide carrier that will wait on the correct interests of Namibia. It can well be an crucial to reiterate that the institution of a contemporary nationwide airline is a topic of nationwide curiosity.

“The ministry and the technical committee are fully cognisant of the high level of interest that exists among the nation at large, encompassing both valuable collaborative suggestions and a simple desire to contribute,” he said.

He defined that while the ministry is grateful for the proactive engagement of the general public, the technical committee will strategically attain out to the nation for advice and assistance when required.

The committee will provoke these outreach efforts on the accurate stages of the course of to style particular public input is successfully constructed-in into planning and trend.

“There is thus no need for individuals to reach out on a daily basis,” Ngweda said.
