Boise State volleyball forfeits game against SJSU amid speculation over trans-athlete

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Boise State Women’s Volleyball team has announced it will forfeit Saturday’s match against San Jose State, as first reported by BJ Rains at Bronco Nation News.

SJSU reportedly has a trans-athlete playing for the women’s volleyball team and has been since the 2022 season.

CBS2 received the following statement from the University, “Boise State volleyball will not play its scheduled match at San José State on Saturday, Sept. 28. Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Boise State. The Broncos will next compete on Oct. 3 against Air Force.”

BSU has not confirmed that the forfeit is in response to the trans-female on SJSU’s team, and has not responded to further questions about the decision.

Governor Little took to X in response to the decision, saying “I applaud [BSU] for working within the spirit of my Executive Order, the Defending Women’s Sports Act. We need to ensure player safety for all of our female athletes and continue the fight for fairness in women’s sports.

Riley Gaines, former female athlete and women’s sports activist has posted on X applauding the decision of Southern Utah University volleyball, who also chose to forfeit a scheduled match against SJSU.
