Some more clarification was provided by officials following the controversial lack of a pass interference call near the end of the Atlanta Falcons’ 22-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.

“That is a real-time call that officials have to make a judgment on,” referee Tra Blake explained in a pool report after the game. “From the angle that they had at the time, they did not feel that there was a foul committed.”

With Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts attempting to haul in a third-down pass in the end zone during the fourth quarter, there appeared to be early contact by Chiefs safety Bryan Cook before the ball fell incomplete.

The Falcons went for it on fourth down and didn’t get it, but they earned one more possession with just over two minutes remaining. Atlanta was able to drive down to Kansas City’s 13-yard line, but another stop on fourth down by the Chiefs defense was the final nail in the coffin.

Head coach Andy Reid’s team was able to earn a late-game pass interference call in a Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. With the Chiefs trailing by two points and 48 seconds left in regulation, a 4th-and-16 pass from Patrick Mahomes fell incomplete for Rashee Rice.

However, the Bengals were called for a penalty in a play that drew comparisons to Sunday night’s finish.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris declined to discuss the no-call.

“I like my money,” Morris told reporters after the game.

“They made the call, or didn’t make the call; it is what it is,” he added.

After an impressive Week 2 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Falcons fell to 1-2. Atlanta will look to bounce back in its next contest, a matchup with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
